Pussy Riot, One defendant freed.

Pussy Riot established them selves as a Russian feminist punk band in october 2011. The defiant females were known for their chalenges to the justice system in russia which served Vladimir Putin.
The band were publicly known for their extreme taste of fashion, as they would be seen in public and in their music videos in brightly coloured tights and balaclavas.they perform unannounced in random loacations singing about russian political life.- provocative performances.

February, 2012, an illegal performance took place on Moscow’s cathedral of Christ the Saviour. The illegal performance was immediately stopped by church security however the performance had already been edited and posted onto the internet. Named “Punk Prayer – Mother of God, Chase Putin Away!”

In march that year Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina were arrested and charged with hooliganism.  Yekaterina Samutsevich, was later arrested too. However Samutsevich was released from her 2 year sentence and says to press “I am happy, of course, but I am upset about the girls”.
Samutsevich’s father reacted with the words: “What happiness! But what a shame about the other girls – they don’t deserve such a harsh punishment”.
